At Powlett River Primary School, we are fortunate to offer a broad range of specialist subjects, each taught by passionate and dedicated educators. Our students receive expert instruction in Auslan, Music, Library, and Physical Education, while our classroom teachers also share their expertise in Art, Science, and Technology. Together, this diverse curriculum supports the development of well-rounded students.
Mr. Ian Chambers – Music Teacher
Mr. Ian Chambers is our talented Music teacher, known to many in our community for his longstanding commitment to local schools. Ian is not only an exceptional musician but also a wonderful teacher and a valued member of our school community. In addition to his musical expertise, Ian brings a deep knowledge of science and environmental studies, further enriching our school’s educational offerings. We are incredibly fortunate to have Ian with us, and his contributions are deeply appreciated.
Ms. Nicki Robson – Auslan Teacher
Ms. Nicki Robson leads our Auslan program with dedication and respect for the Deaf community. She ensures that her lessons are inclusive and meaningful, fostering an environment where students learn both the language and the significance of respect and inclusion. Auslan was introduced based on community interest, and Nicki has embraced this responsibility with great care.
Mrs. Sophie Callcott – LibraryTeacher
Each week, Mrs. Sophie Callcott, our MARC (Mobile Area Resource Centre) Library teacher, brings books for borrowing and a love of reading to our school. Sophie travels from Fish Creek Primary School with the library van, offering a vast selection of books for students to borrow as part of the MARC program. Her library lessons are a highlight of the week, encouraging students to explore new worlds through literature. We are grateful to have Sophie’s enthusiasm and dedication to fostering a love of reading.
Mrs. Jess Moed – Physical Education Teacher
This year, we are excited to have Mrs. Jess Moed teaching Physical Education at our school. As the District Sports Coordinator and a highly skilled PE teacher, Jess brings both expertise and a genuine passion for fostering physical activity. What stands out most is Jess's commitment to participation and inclusion, ensuring that every student feels valued and encouraged to engage. Her energy and care make PE lessons an enjoyable and enriching experience for all.
Mrs. Gerry Petersen – Drama Teacher
We are also privileged to have Mrs. Gerry Petersen, a retired teacher, who volunteers her time each year to direct our end-of-year school concert and smaller drama productions throughout the year. Gerry’s remarkable talent and leadership shine through in these performances, and her work alongside Ian Chambers makes the end-of-year concert a truly special event. Mrs. Petersen is a much-loved member of our school community, and her dedication to the arts continues to inspire our students.
Mr. Pete Matthews - Science Teacher
We welcome Pete Matthews back this term following his long service leave. Pete brings a deep passion for science and a wealth of knowledge, particularly in marine biology, which continues to inspire and engage our students across all year levels. Pete is leading the implementation of the new Victorian Science Curriculum, with a strong focus on environmental and biological sciences. He is also working closely with our OUTSIDE program, helping students make meaningful, real-world connections between science and the natural environment. We’re excited to see the energy and expertise Pete brings to our science program once again!
