Weekly Update
As we head towards the final week of term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our families and community for your support while Wendy has been taking a well-earned break. We are fortunate to be part of such a caring and supportive school community. Wendy returns tomorrow (Thursday), and I know everyone will be pleased to welcome her back.
This week, we were excited to welcome our new Physical Education teacher, Beth Walker. Ms Walker was warmly welcomed by students on Monday and has already made a wonderful start. We are confident she will make a fantastic contribution to our school community and look forward to seeing the positive impact she will have on our students.
A reminder that our Years 3-6 camp is next week. Myself, Ms Nicol, Gaby and Tahlia are attending camp, with Ms Boyce coming for Wednesday, and Mrs Black coming for Thursday. If you have not yet returned your camp forms, please do so by the end of this week. If you would like to discuss camp payments or CSEF support, please don’t hesitate to contact or visit the school office.
For our Prep–Year 2 students, OUTSIDE will continue as planned on Wednesday while the senior students are away at camp. I look forward to hearing all about their day of outdoor learning and exploration.
This Friday’s assembly will be a special one as we officially present our School Captains and Student Council members with their leadership badges. We are incredibly proud of these students and the positive contributions they make to our school community. Families are warmly invited to join us for this presentation at our assembly, beginning at 2:45pm. We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our student leaders and their families.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Warm Regards,
Carla Golden
As part of our ongoing work with the Social Stencil program, this term students have been learning about the concept of our “body bubble” and the layers of personal space that sit around each of us. We have discussed that each person is in control of their own body bubble, and that if someone enters a layer in a way that feels uncomfortable or unsafe, students are encouraged to use clear, assertive language such as, “Stop, I don’t like that.” In the yard, we are promoting this as a simple two-step approach: Step 1 is to use our voice and ask them to stop, and Step 2 is to seek support from a teacher if needed. This is helping students to build confidence in using their voice and developing assertiveness in a safe and supported way.
We have also begun exploring the idea of our body’s “power pack”, our personal energy levels and how these can change from day to day. Students have created their own individual power packs and are beginning to use these as a regular check-in tool. This is helping them to recognise their energy levels, understand how this can influence their emotions and behaviour, and identify what they might need in order to feel balanced and ready to learn.
We will continue these conversations throughout the year, particularly around how we can “recharge our battery” when needed. You may also like to talk with your child at home about strategies that help them recharge, as consistency between school and home can be very supportive for students.
