Thank you to Ben, Leigh and Rarni, and Maria and Mariella for helping fix up and tidy up things around the school over the break.

4/5/6 Excursion

I had a wonderful start to the term with an impromptu excursion to the Arts Centre Melbourne for our 4/5/6s. We had a fantastic time seeing The Bookbinder and spending time on South Bank and visiting the gardens. This would not have been possible without the generous offer from the Arts Centre to cover all the costs and finding a bus company who could take us at short notice. So, we are very grateful to Cruisin’ with Kylie who came through with a bus and did a fabulous job getting us to and from the Arts Centre. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who helped get kids to school before 7.30am at such short notice. I greatly appreciate it. I didn’t want our kids missing out, and they were such a joy to take.

District Athletics

I am thrilled that we have so many students competing in athletics on Monday we have to take a bus! Thanks to Chelsea Black for organising this. It does mean for the first time we do have to pay for travel to the event. If anyone is experiencing financial hardship, please let me know. No students will miss out for financial reasons.  Congratulations to all our competitors, we know you will make us proud. Parents and extended family are welcome to attend. Even though I know one of our strengths as a school community is celebrating and supporting all children, the District does ask that we make sure parents and family attending are made aware that they need to respect the staff, event coordinators and other competitors.

Supporting Social and Emotional Learning

One of the things I love most about working at Powlett River is the way we celebrate and care for all children. It’s something that makes our school special, and I don’t want us to lose that.  Recently I have been made aware of parents contacting other parents about friendships and other issues that have occurred at school. If you have any concerns about interactions or issues that happen at school, please speak to me or your child’s classroom teacher. We care about our students’ friendships too. It’s very much on our radar who is playing with who, how that is working, what friendships we can encourage… We see recess and lunch as learning time, it’s often when we do our best work! Please continue to encourage your child to let us know if something has happened at school so we can support them immediately and can teach in that moment.

Industrial Action

Thank you all again for supporting the AEU Industrial Action last term. We know how challenging it can be for families on strike days, so it is greatly appreciated. Industrial Action is continuing this term while negotiations continue.  Union members at Powlett River Primary School will stop work for half a day on 28 May 2026. I am unsure how this will look at school that day. We will continue to keep families informed about any action that may affect our school community.
