Principal’s Message

We have had a wonderful and busy start to the term. 

Welcome to our new Prep students and their families. I have loved seeing how quickly they are settling into school routines and embracing new learning experiences. 

Our grades 1-6 students recently participated in activities with Life Saving Victoria, at Cowes beach. The weather was perfect and our students participated with enthusiasm throughout the day.

Our first OUTSIDE day is next week. We are looking forward to a special visit from Dalyston CFA in the afternoon. OUTSIDE was developed as we wanted to provide opportunities for students to build independence, problem-solving skills, cooperation, and a connection to their environment. We know these experiences are invaluable in supporting both academic and social development. An outline of the day will be posted on Compass on Tuesday.

Our students are learning important social skills all the time. Unstructured times like recess and lunch, are an opportunity for students to practice and learn with staff support. These moments can sometimes be complex and are often misunderstood when shared second hand. We ask families to approach conversations about other children with care, and empathy. Every child in our school deserves dignity, privacy, and understanding. As adults, we set the tone. When we model respectful communication, we strengthen our entire community.

If you ever have concerns about student behaviour or something your child shares with you that has happened at school, please reach out directly to me or to your child’s classroom teacher. We are always happy to listen, clarify, and work together to ensure that concerns are addressed appropriately and fairly.

Thank you for the many ways you support our school community. Your involvement is important in creating a positive environment for all students and helps uphold a culture where every child feels respected and valued.

School Council

School council members play an important role in the school. Some of the functions of school council include approvals of policies, camps and excursions, overseeing the financial management of the school, approving fundraising events, and managing OSHC.

Our school council has 2 parent positions up for nomination and 2 staff positions. Nomination forms are available at the office or can be emailed from Monday 16 February.

Nominations will close on Monday 23 February.

Candidates will be posted on Wednesday 25 February.

If we have more nominations than positions a ballot will open on Monday 2 March and ballot papers will be distributed.

The ballot will close on Monday 9 March.

Ballots will be counted on Tuesday March 10 and the outcome announced Thursday 12 March.

The AGM and School Council meeting will be held the following week the date is to be confirmed.

One of our school goals is to increase students voice and agency. This year we are introducing a Students Representative Council (SRC). This will give students a formal way of contributing ideas. On Friday morning the grades1-6 had a meeting to talk about what an SRC does and decide on the structure and how the SRC could work.

It was decided that 4 students from the 1/2/3 and 4/5/6 classes would be elected by their peers to be on the SRC. The other decisions made were, fortnightly meetings and that preps could have representatives join later in the year. It was decided that those who would like to be on SRC will make a pitch on Friday in their classrooms, with voting to follow. 

I was incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and contributions the students made. I am looking forward to working with the SRC.

Please do not park and leave your car in the drop off zone. This refers to the area in the staff car park that families use to pick up and drop off their children. We understand parking after school can be challenging, so we are happy for parents and carers to use the staff carpark, and parking is also available along Charlton Avenue.

We will be working with children who ride to school on entering and exiting via the staff carpark entrance. Students are not permitted to ride around the school grounds before, during or after school.
